A very fine, moody album By Stephen Silberman Marc Copland is one of the most distinctive pianists of our time. Like Bill Evans’s music, his probing lines and subtly shaded chords ask us to turn inward. His occasional collaborations with the guitarists’ guitarist John Abercrombie began decades ago, and this is perhaps the best. Every member of this tightly-knit group is a master of his instrument, and they play as one mind. Moody, reflective, restrainedly passionate music.
